ON-GOING PROJECTS

 1. Title:         CPAR on Cassava Chips Processing in Barangays Naparaan and Malbog, Salcedo, Eastern Samar

Brief Description

         This proposal will focus on the improvement of the product attributes of cassava chips & establishment of marketing strategies. The project will also capacitate the stakeholders in the conduct of varietal selection and sustainable production of raw materials for cassava chips.

Objectives

           The CPAR project in Salcedo is geared to increase the income of cooperators from sales of processed cassava chips.

            Specifically, the CPAR project will facilitate the achievement the following objectives:

  • To enhance the knowledge and skills of stakeholders on the processing of cassava chips;
  • to establish marketing strategy for processed cassava chips within the local market;
  • to establish a demonstration area of improved varieties of raw materials for cassava chips.

2. Title:   Asset-based Community Development for Gawad Kalinga (ABCD4GK)

 Brief Description

  1. Project is designed to concentrate extension activities of the academic department in one community, which is GK Naparaan.
  2.  Project will show case interventions geared towards enhancement and strengthening of personal, natural, physical, financial and social resources of the target community.

Objectives

 o   The project aims to introduce relevant technologies which will enhance asset endowment of the stakeholders.

 Specifically, within four years the following activities were achieved:

  • Conducted trainings for social development of stakeholders
  • stakeholders were engaged in new livelihood opportunities
  • have developed system of information retrieval using electronic media
  • healthy lifestyle were introduced to the community
  • engaged into small industry business activities.

3. Title: Cassava-based Production System

    Brief Description

    The project is designed to maximize the product of University researches on farming system and carbonized rice hulls as soil amendments.

    Objectives

    The project serve as an avenue for training farmers on approaches towards sustainable farming of cassava.

    Specifically, at the end of the project, 10 farmer cooperators have achieved the following objectives:

  1.  Utilized organic fertilizers side by side with carbonized rice husk & coco  coir. 
  2. Identified cropping system which provide higher farm revenue;

4. Title:  Bangus Production Demo

 Brief Description

 The project is designed to showcase production of Bangus in areas disturbed by sediments from chrome mining in  Salcedo.

 Objectives

 The project serve as an avenue for training farmers on approaches towards the use of alternative materials for the construction of fish cages.

 Specifically, at the end of the project, 10 farmer cooperators have achieved the following objectives:

  • Utilized non wood materials in the construction of fish cages
  • Determine the profitability in the production of Bangus in Palanas
